I can't believe March is already half over, and we have had 3 days of snow/ice!!!
Sorry for combining two weeks in one post but between the snow, beginning of Lent, working on the program, and conferences time has just gotten away from me!
Two weeks ago on our short week we celebrated Dr.Seuss' birthday! We read one of my favorite stories Gertrude McFuzz, and while most people probably haven't heard about Gertrude since her story is not a stand alone Seuss book, her story is a wonderful journey of self acceptance. Gertrude was unhappy with her one tiny tail feather and sought a solution to add more feathers to her tail. She was told about a berry bush but was cautioned to only eat one. She did not take the advice and ate so many berries that she grew so many feathers that her tail became too heavy to even fly! After her friends helped carry her home she decided that her one original tail feather was all she needed so she plucked all of the "extras."
We made our own versions of Gertrude's crazy tail with tissue paper, they turned out pretty fun and very Seuss'-ical!
Our second Seuss day revolved around The Lorax and we learned to Speak for The Trees and what is right for our environment. Look at these extremely adorable Lorax!
Our favorite activity of our Lorax day was making our yummy snack, our own version of truffula trees!
Last week we began our preparations for spring and St.Patrick's Day. We made beautiful tissue tear shamrocks to hand from our ceiling.
We also made adorable rainbow colored snails to decorate the windows. I thought snails were appropriate since spring is VERY slowly making its entrance to Arkansas! :)
We had a special visitor come to our classroom last week, Ms. Ashley, better known as Henry and George's mom! Ms. Ashley worked with us on our class project for the Art and Souls night coming up. I can't wait for you all to see the finished project!
Last week we spent a good portion of our math instructional time playing games that reviewed numbers 0-15. The kids' favorite game was by far Bingo!

March's Give A Treat project benefited The CALL, an organization that supplies children in the care of DHS with backpacks of necessities and fun items while they are waiting to be placed in foster care. Thank you so much for all of your very generous donations to the PreK B backpack! We were able to purchase everything on the list needed to fill one backpack and to make a small donation with the left over money. After a brief discussion of what the CALL does and who they benefit, we each took turns filling the backpack with the items!
The kids were very proud of the backpack we put together!
