What Lives In The Air

Two weeks ago we learn all about What Lives In The Air.  The kids favorite part of the study was the lesson on birds!

Benny was kind enough to share a nest from his backyard with us after the baby robins hatched and all went to make their own nests.

After learning about and seeing what birds make their nests out of we went outside to see if we could make our own nest.
It ended up looking more like a camp fire than a bird's nest, but we tried our best.  Birds clearly do it better than humans!

After we completed our alphabet study, we began our sight word study with the high frequency word THE.  We used our knowledge of letter sounds and sound blends to learn to read the word then we read stories just to see how many times we could find the word the in one book.  Annikah's Hoot of the Week book Sofia: The Royal Games had the word The 54 times!

Continuing our study of thing that live in the air, we made chicks to go in our window.  Look at our adorable "Spring Chickens"!

This week we also learned about the concept of pairs.  Everyone brought in great examples of pairs!

The first weekend in May was the Holy Souls Art Show.  We entered our paintings from our Spring Program and we were all recognized for our awesome work!

The funniest part of our week was definitely attending the 8th grade variety show!  Middle school humor is definitely an acquired taste but we enjoyed the show very much.  Although a few of us just couldn't figure out why boys would compete in a beauty pageant!
We wish all of the 8th grade class good luck next year in high school, but especially Andrew Straessle, Mrs. Straessle's son!  (pictured blow in the red t-shirt standing to the immediate left of the curtain.)
I can't wait to see what all of PreK B's hoots will be like as 8th graders.  Don't worry, we still have 9 more years!  :)
