Our second week was a hoot!

Our second week of school was another week full of firsts for the hoots of PreK-B!

On Monday we got to meet our class pet, Lionel!  Lionel is a Robo Dwarf Hampster who is about the size of a golf ball.  He has a very large appetite for all things healthy, his favorite foods are grapes and carrots.  Although Lionel is nocturnal,  he never wants to miss out on the excitement of our room.  He wakes up to greet the children in the morning, to see them off in the afternoon, and to eat a snack of course!

This week we started our class jobs!  We have nine jobs in our classroom, so the children are paired and given a task they are in charge of for the entire week; line leader, caboose, chair stacker, etc.  This week Paul and Bryceson were our Pet Helpers, look how excited they were to be the first to take care of Lionel!

This week we started going to centers, check out all of the fun we had in:
 reading center,
science center,
math center,
puzzles and games center,
art center,
blocks center,
dramatic play center,
and listening center!

Wednesday was our first time to go to PE.  Check us out playing Duck, Duck, Goose on the "Big Kid Field"!
Run Jonathan, Run!

Since we won't be attending Friday morning Mass until October, we will be having our own PreK prayer service on Fridays until then.  Here we are in our first prayer service of the year listening to Mrs. Straessle tell a story about how to take care of our bodies.  We learned that our bodies are a temple and Jesus dwells inside each and every one of us.

This week we had our first Tornado Drill of the year.  Look how well we practiced getting down and covering our head in our classroom before we moved into the hallway for the actual drill.  Safety is always first in PreK-B!

This week's theme was "All About Me" with an emphasis on the concept of sorting.  Every time we learned about a specific characteristic we sorted the class into categories and graphed our findings.  One of my favorite activities was guessing our height, being measured, and comparing our findings to our estimate.  Jagger thought he was 100 feet tall, too bad he was only 3ft 9in!

As always, I am looking forward to every exciting thing next week has in store for the Hoots of PreK-B!
