"Run, Run, As Fast As You Can! You Can't Catch Me I'm The Gingerbread Man!"

We had a fun week learning all about Gingerbread!  There are MANY variations to the classic Gingerbread Man story: stories about Gingerbread bears, girls, pirates, cowboys, gingerbread that got away, some that didn't, etc.

Each day we read a different story about a Gingerbread Character and compared their story to other Gingerbread characters.  The questions we answered were: Who made them?  Who did they run away from?  What was their saying?  Did they get away in the end?

I loved seeing all of the Gingerbread Kids that the students made at home with help from all of our wonderful parents!

We even had a Gingerbread Hunt of our own!  One day when we returned from recess Cameron found a clue on our smartboard.  The clue led us to the library!

In the library, Julian found a clue that led us to the Office!

In the Office, Samantha found a clue that led us to the Cafeteria!

In the Cafeteria, Dawson found a clue that led us back to our Classroom!

In our Classroom, Ava found the last clue, a box full of yummy gingerbread for us to eat!

These Gingerbread definitely weren't getting away from us again!

After we ate our Gingerbread men, it was time to take a poll and chart our findings.
Did you like the gingerbread cookie?

The votes were close, but the majority of our class DID like the gingerbread cookies.

Next, we charted what part of the gingerbread cookie we ate first: his head, arm, or leg.

The majority of our class took a bite of the gingerbread cookie's head first.  It must have been is candy eyes!

Another special treat we had during Gingerbread Week was our monthly visit from Ms. Susan from the Museum of Discovery and this time she brought a baby alligator!

We learned all kinds of cool things about how alligators make nests to lay their eggs, how the temperature of the egg determines the gender of the alligator inside so eggs on top end up being boys and eggs on the bottom end up being girls since they need to be warmer, and that alligators swallow their food whole.

Ms.Susan brought a baby girl alligator named Squirt and everyone was so brave and pet Squirt's tail!

Also during our Gingerbread week, Mary Millicent's grandparents came for a visit and had lunch with us!  We love when we have special guests, thanks for stopping by!
