When I Grow Up

As we learned about all of the community helpers in our neighborhood we learned about the tools they use to help us.  We read the adorable book Clothesline Clues To Jobs People Do and used context clues to figure out what each character in the story's profession was.

After we learned all about firemen, police officers, mail carriers, bus drivers, doctors, and many other community helpers, we put our creative skills to good use.  Each child was given two red rectangles, one blue square, one yellow rectangle, and two black squares and was asked to figure out what type of community helper's vehicle we could make with the shapes.  After only a few short minutes, each child figured out that we were making fire trucks!

This week we journaled all about what we want to be when we grow up.  We have a class full of future doctors, police officers, firemen, construction workers, vets and teachers who will all be wonderful community helpers! 

This week we welcomed cooler temperatures and dreamed of snow.  We wondered what it would be like to live in a snow globe, take a look and see!

First, we cut out colorful bases for our globes to rest on.

Next, we added some snow.

Finally, attach your "globe" and base and voila, adorable snow globe kiddos!

 

 We also had our visit from Ms.Susan from the Museum of Discovery this week and she taught us all about birds!

We learned lots of neat facts like: ostrich may not fly but they can run faster than most big cats,

  ostrich lay the biggest eggs and the smallest bird eggs are humming bird eggs,

 

and that a weight class of boxers, the bantam weight, was named after a rooster!

Ms.Susan brought a bantam rooster with her and we learned that even though they are one of the smallest roosters, they are one of the toughest and will fight off any opponent to keep their territory safe.

We even got to touch the rooster's tail!
