Signs That Keep Us Safe

Answering the question "How Do I Keep Myself Safe?" included many fun lessons.  We learned how to know if a situation is an emergency, how to call 9-1-1 if we are ever in danger, how to stay safe around water, not to play with containers, and the kids' favorite-signs that keep us safe!

After learning about different kinds of signs we took a trip around the school grounds to see how many signs we could spot.

Anna and Dawson spotted the Stop Sign at H and Harrison
Alexander and Sloane found the Do Not Enter sign by the back parking lot
Taylor and Ian remind us that there are No Left Turns onto Harrison street
Sarah Kate and Bella know to always drive 25 when children are present
Savannah and Tyler know we should never use cell phones while driving, especially during school hours and in the carpool line
Samantha and Cameron are happy to help our handicapped parishioners find a spot right up front
Mary Millicent shows us where to safely cross the street
Ava and Julian know not to block the parking lot entrance when we park
So many signs right by our school to keep all of the Wabbits safe!

Although we did not see a stop light on our walk, it was our favorite traffic sign to learn about.  Must be that it has such a fun game associated with it!

While learning all about staying safe we continued our Alphabet Study with the letter B!  Our Journal entry for the week was an image of a bumble bee, which have so much personality you just can't help but smile!

Another fun B activity the kids enjoyed was making blue butter!
One mason jar + one cup of heavy whipping cream + one dash of salt + one blue teddy bear counter +  one teaspoon of blue food coloring + LOTS of shaking = blue butter!
Blue Butter tastes especially good on ritz crackers...yum!

Our special apple recipe for the week was to make apple pies.
First, squish a biscuit into the bottom of a muffin tin.
Second, top with a heaping spoonful of apple pile filling.
Third, bake and enjoy!

Apples and Astronauts

In the midst of all of our Boosterthon fun we began our alphabet study!  Each week we will introduce a new letter and learn how to recognize it, write it, identify what sounds it makes, and words that begin with it.

We began the week by learning about the letter A using our All About chart followed by playing a few fun letter games on Starfall.com and listening to the catchy letter A song by HaveFunTeaching.

We then practiced our handwriting with our first Rainbow Write lesson!  This is a fun way for us to learn how to correctly form the letters in the alphabet.  After learning the Rainbow song we used each color, in rainbow order, to trace both uppercase and lowercase As.

Next, we had to use our listening skills to identify which object in a pair started with the letter A.  Look at all of that concentration!

Success!  We identified athletes, an alligator, apple seeds, an ambulance, an axe, an ant eater, an apple, an astronaut, and ants.

We then practiced identifying the letter A in a letter search that just so happened to be shaped like an astronaut!

This week we also began our Alphabet Journal with our first entry, an apple of course!

They look so great in our room!

In addition to learning about the letter A, we learned about the triangle.  After we learned to identify objects that are triangular in shape, we played a shape sort activity reviewing the three shapes we have covered so far: circle, square, and triangle.

We continued practicing identifying and making patterns with apple bracelets!  We first made red green patterns then we all made an AB pattern of our color choice.

We also practiced making AB patterns with a friend using objects that start with A.

Mary Millicent and Ian used angels and apples
Tyler and Savannah used Arkansas and apples
Cameron and Samantha used Arkansas and apples, too!
Anna used Arkansas and awards
Bella and Dawson used angels and apples
Julian and Ava used angels and awards
Alexander and Taylor used apples and awards
Austin and Sarah Kate used Arkansas and angels

Once a month each 4th grade class will come to read to our both PreK classes.  This week we met our Reading Buddies from Mrs.Roberson's 4B!

Anna and Sarah Kate with Julianne
Savannah with Emma
Bella and Cameron with Kaylee
Ava and Julian with Braun
Austin and Sloane with Olivia
Mary Millicent and Dawson with Ethan
Samantha with Sam
Ian and Taylor with Garrett
Alexander and Tyler with Madeline
We can't wait to meet our Reading Buddies from 4A next week!

This week our Hoot, Samantha, brought delicious strawberry popsicles.  Thanks for sharing such a yummy treat!

One of our hoots had special lunch guests all the way from Florida!  Anna thanks for sharing your grandparents with us!
