Apples and Astronauts

In the midst of all of our Boosterthon fun we began our alphabet study!  Each week we will introduce a new letter and learn how to recognize it, write it, identify what sounds it makes, and words that begin with it.

We began the week by learning about the letter A using our All About chart followed by playing a few fun letter games on Starfall.com and listening to the catchy letter A song by HaveFunTeaching.

We then practiced our handwriting with our first Rainbow Write lesson!  This is a fun way for us to learn how to correctly form the letters in the alphabet.  After learning the Rainbow song we used each color, in rainbow order, to trace both uppercase and lowercase As.

Next, we had to use our listening skills to identify which object in a pair started with the letter A.  Look at all of that concentration!

Success!  We identified athletes, an alligator, apple seeds, an ambulance, an axe, an ant eater, an apple, an astronaut, and ants.

We then practiced identifying the letter A in a letter search that just so happened to be shaped like an astronaut!

This week we also began our Alphabet Journal with our first entry, an apple of course!

They look so great in our room!

In addition to learning about the letter A, we learned about the triangle.  After we learned to identify objects that are triangular in shape, we played a shape sort activity reviewing the three shapes we have covered so far: circle, square, and triangle.

We continued practicing identifying and making patterns with apple bracelets!  We first made red green patterns then we all made an AB pattern of our color choice.

We also practiced making AB patterns with a friend using objects that start with A.

Mary Millicent and Ian used angels and apples
Tyler and Savannah used Arkansas and apples
Cameron and Samantha used Arkansas and apples, too!
Anna used Arkansas and awards
Bella and Dawson used angels and apples
